Aloe vera – a healthy and versatile raw material, sustainably farmed and fair trade

The plant-based raw material aloe has been used for thousands of years as a versatile healing and caring active ingredient. The plant is one of the most commonly used natural raw materials in the cosmetics industry.

curaloe® from PolyNeo is a certified raw material based on aloe vera, which serves as a versatile basis for various applications. PolyNeo offers countless possibilities for further processing of the high-quality raw material with innovative formulations in a range of dosage forms and concentrations that can be used for anything from cosmetics and nutritional supplements to food and beverages.

The partners of the international trading company produce aloe as a raw material in South Africa, where Aloe vera barbadensis Miller, a high-quality, robust and low-maintenance Aloe variety, thrives. It is characterised by a particularly low aloe content. Since overdosage of the active ingredient is harmful to health, the low initial concentration facilitates the further processing of the plant.

curaloe® aloe vera is available in various forms. It is supplied as normal and concentrated aloe vera juice, powder in various concentrations (1:1, 1:10, 1:100 or 1:200), slices and also pieces of plant leaves. As a long-standing and experienced trading partner, PolyNeo not only supplies raw materials but also enables the production of private label products for retailers.

Social responsibility in aloe vera sourcing

In addition to the quality of the raw material, curaloe® is produced with a focus on sustainability and social responsibility. With the rising demand for aloe vera, PolyNeo is also growing more aware of its responsibility toward sustainable raw material sourcing.

The aim of raw material sourcing in South Africa is to achieve an optimal product in terms of quality. In addition, cultivation, harvesting and processing are carried out with a high awareness of environment and social responsibility. Cultivation in South Africa is subject to the EU CAP-based standard for organic farming. It is certified according to Ecocert, HACCP, Halal, Kosher, NOP and ACSA. Manual methods of pest control and resource-conserving agriculture are used instead of pesticides and germicides. Social responsibility is also assumed and the local economy strengthened. Compliance with health and safety laws is consistent, employees are paid 10 per cent above the current minimum wage, medical care is ensured and further measures are taken to support employees.
